Our Story
EL Flowers began…
with an idea that small gift bouquets would help make people feel happiness at a time when we were coming out of the darkness of Covid. My name is Elaine Farrand, and my small business grew from my love of flowers, passed down to me by my mother who was a watercolor artist whose favorite painting subject was beautiful flowers. I shared this passion, but when I started planting my flower boxes and tending to my gardens around my house, a seed was planted that maybe this could be more than just a pastime. Retiring from my teaching job (middle school English) gave me the time and energy to devote to a new career that truly propelled me in a very different direction from what I had known for the previous 23 years.
My husband, Randy, has always loved vegetable gardening. I told him I’d like a big garden, so he went right to work digging, fertilizing, and building me a decent-sized garden in our backyard. I went to work researching, planning, and buying seeds. Our first year we planted seeds directly in the garden and watched the magic begin. Since then, we’ve started seeds in early February inside (any available shelf space and table), transplanted outside in May, and started cutting flowers all summer. As time has passed, I have expanded my garden, my research, and my love of sharing flowers.
What you don’t see in my photos are the daily challenges with insects, weather (this past season it was wildfire smoke and LOTS of rain) bug bites, and time. Mother Nature can be a tough teacher! Despite the obstacles, we still managed to harvest buckets of flowers and participate in farmer’s markets, events, and deliver our flower subscriptions. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow!
We have expanded our list of services to include flower bars and small weddings. Flower bars add a fun activity to your shower or party and encourage guests to make and then take home their own bouquets. So much fun and they’re a tremendous hit!
If you’ve ever seen us at an event (think pink tent!) or bought flowers from us, we are very grateful for your support. Flower farming is challenging but is so worth it when we see the joy, satisfaction and love people experience.
I hope to meet you in person this season or have the honor of creating beautiful memories with you at an event you are hosting. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for helping me grow!
